Clive specialises in coaching senior leaders and their teams. His clients come from a range of financial organisations, professional services firms and other sectors including Aberdeen Asset Management, Barclays, BBC, CBRE, GSK, lastminute.com, Hogan Lovells, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Rathbones, TNT, UBS and Vodafone.
He has a track record, spanning more than eighteen years, of coaching senior executives who are actively developing their careers, including individuals who are preparing for new and substantially larger leadership roles, highly valued individuals who are facing a variety of leadership challenges and younger exceptionally talented individuals who are experiencing rapid career progression.
In his coaching work Clive brings together hard-edged commercial experience and strategic insight with a sophisticated understanding of organisational dynamics and the personal challenges facing senior leaders. His clients gain the opportunity to look more deeply at their leadership challenges and explore their professional dilemmas. Through his direct and honest coaching, they become better able to leverage their strengths and learn how to address their development areas. As a result they typically identify possibilities, which they have not noticed before, to implement new leadership approaches, improve their working relationships and manage their careers more effectively.
While developing his own coaching practice, he worked as an executive coach with London Business School for a number of years, leading cross-cultural teams of coaches across three continents (Europe, USA and the Far East) on a long-running senior leadership programme for a global investment bank. He is now a visiting faculty member at the INSEAD Global Leadership Centre in Paris where he coaches an internationally diverse range of senior executives.
Clive is an award-winning writer, researcher and international speaker in the area of leadership development and executive coaching, having written six editions of the Ridler Report (a well-known research programme which reports on the changing uses of coaching) and numerous articles.
Before becoming an executive coach he spent twenty years in financial institutions and professional services firms, in senior corporate finance and strategic planning roles. He worked in organisations such as Bankers Trust, Deloitte and Abbey National. In the latter he worked closely with the Group CEO and main board on the bank’s strategy. He founded the Mayfair-based executive coaching practice Ridler & Co in 2001, following his passion for helping high achieving individuals to develop their leadership and professional lives in ways which are in tune with their motivations and which make the most of their talents.
Clive is an APECS Accredited Executive Coach and is highly qualified in both the business and psychological domains (London Business School MBA, Chartered Accountant and qualified psychotherapist). He holds professional registration with UKCP and membership of ISPSO (the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organisations).
He is married, has one son and lives in London. In his spare time he enjoys sailing on the south coast of England, playing squash and listening to 1970s music.
